Market Order Should Be Secured

Premier Zhu Rongji urged more efforts to be made to rectify and regulate the order of the market economy in order to cement achievements that have been made and to overcome difficulties.

Zhu made the remark during an inspection to the General Administration for Industry and Commerce on Friday.

He noted that an important role of the government is to supervise the operation of the market, safeguard the market order, and create sound market environment for the economic development.

China promoted the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, a vice-ministerial department, as the State General Administration for Industry and Commerce, a ministerial department, in March, 2001, to enhance its status and authority as a market supervisor and a law enforcement agency.

The premier said that the market rectification work has made some progress while problems still exist. Manufacture and sales of fake goods are still very rampant in some parts of the country. Some law violators even fought against law enforcement. And some places tried to intensify local protectionism with various kinds of excuses.

He said that China must continue rectifying the market order to tackle with the sluggish growth of global economy and international trade.

He asked the industry and commerce administrators to combat illegal activities of making or selling fake products, especially those which directly endanger people's health and life, such as food, medicines, and medical apparatus.

The bodyguards of market order should strengthen registration work and prevent from entering the market the enterprises which fail to meet requirements of the national laws and regulations.

They should examine and deal with unfair competition and break regional blockade and trade monopoly without hesitation, he said.

Supervision on trade marks and advertisements should also be enhanced. Enterprises which illegally produce or use registered trade marks of others should be severely punished, said the premier, who also urged to clean the ads market by combating false and illegal advertisements.

He asked to continue cracking down on smuggling and sales of smuggled goods while enhancing supervision on banned market for smuggled goods.
