Jordan is willing to strengthen economic cooperation with China in mining, chemical fertilizer production, and the information and energy industries, King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan told Chinese businesses Friday in Beijing.
In a meeting with a group of Chinese entrepreneurs organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Abdullah said that as members of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Jordan and China enjoy huge potentials in trade, investment and contracting service.
Abdullah expressed the hope that more Chinese enterprises will invest in Jordan in the fields of infrastructure, energy, high- technology and real estate.
Jordan will readjust relevant policies and regulations in line with the needs and characters of Chinese businesses to simplify administrative procedures and improve the investment environment, the king said.
Liu Wenjie, vice-chairman of the CCPIT, said at the meeting that the China-Jordan economic and trade relations have witnessed rapid development in recent years.
The business circles of both sides wish to promote economic and trade ties to a new level through further understanding and cooperation, Liu said.
Figures from the Chinese customs show that China-Jordan trade for the first eleven months in 2001 reached US$245 million, a year-on-year increase of 9.1 percent, with China's exports totaling US$197 million worth and imports US$47 million.
Abdullah is paying a five-day state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Jiang Zemin.
