Top Discipline Inspector Urges Officials to End Nepotism
Wei Jianxing, chief discipline inspector of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has urged officials, particularly those in senior positions, to get rid of nepotism and keep their spouses and children clean.

Joining legislators from Zhejiang Province in east China in a panel discussion during the annual session of the National People' s Congress, China's parliament, the secretary of CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said cadres must not only be clean themselves, but also make sure their spouses and children are clean.

He slashed at a handful of senior officials for abusing their power and colluding with their spouses and children in seeking illegal gains, saying that their behavior has seriously damaged the reputation of the Party and the government among the people.

He reminded that the discipline inspection commission has promulgated a whole set of detailed rules for the prevention of nepotism, including banning spouses and children of cadres from engaging in any business activities that fall in their jurisdictions.

While all cadres should consciously abide by all the rules, Party organizations at all levels should step up their inspection and supervision and impose sanctions on violators without mercy, he concluded.
