More than 775,000 Hong Kong citizens have signed in a campaign to support the government's constitutional development package of proposals, according to an announcement of the Grand Coalition Concerning Political Reform on Tuesday.

The campaign, launched between Dec. 11 and 18, was aimed to express Hong Kong people's will to deal separately with adoption of the constitutional reform package and a time table for universal suffrage.

Two Hong Kong-based Chinese language newspapers also launched website signing activities to support the package of proposals.

Hong Kong Chief Secretary for Administration Rafael Hui told the press after receiving the signatures that he felt excited to see so many Hong Kong citizens support the constitutional development package of disposals and he appreciated their efforts.

He said the signatures extensively reflected the views of Hong Kong public.

After nearly two years of consultation and soliciting views from various walks of life in Hong Kong by the government, the constitutional development Package of Proposals for the Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive in 2007 and for Forming the Legislative Council in 2008 was issued on Oct. 19 and will be submitted to the Legislative Council on Wednesday.
