A businessman from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has been sentenced to two years in jail and fined 150,000 yuan (about US$18,000) for illegal sale of overseas publications.
Court investigations show that Li Guangqiang, the businessman, and his fellows sold a huge amount of overseas publications in Fujian Province, with no approval from related departments.
The Fuqing Municipal People's Court of Fujian Province has given the sentence in accordance with the Criminal Law, saying that Li's illegal business operation has seriously affected the market order.
Li did not appeal against the sentence.
The court decided on Saturday that Li could temporarily serve his sentence outside prison but under surveillance, on the ground that he is suffering from hepatitis B.
