1. The Initiation and Objective of China-ASEAN Expo

 

At the 7th China-ASEAN Summit on October 8, 2003, Premier Wen Jiabao proposed that a China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) be held annually in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from 2004 onward. His initiative was welcomed by ASEAN leaders and was inscribed into the Chairman's Statement released after the summit. Premier Wen also suggested that a China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) be held simultaneously with the China-ASEAN Expo.

 

Based on the Framework Agreement on China-ASEAN Comprehensive Economic Cooperation, with the sole objectives of promoting the building of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, and striving for mutual benefit and common prosperity, the China-ASEAN Expo focuses on regional economic and trade cooperation as well as providing tremendous opportunities for global business communities.

 

The first CAEXPO and CABIS were successfully held in Nanning in November 2004, and the second CAEXPO and CABIS in October 2005.

 

2. The 3rd China-ASEAN Expo

 

I Venue and Scale

 

Venue: The Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Center, Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

 

Scale: An exhibition space of 80,000 square meters will be used for setting up 3,300 booths (3m×3m), among which 2,800 will be indoor international standard booths, and 500 outdoor ones. 

 

II Pavilions 

 

Pavilions will be set up, namely the Pavilion of Commodity Trade, Pavilion of Investment Cooperation, Pavilion of Agricultural Advanced and Applicable Technology and Pavilion of Cities of Charm.

 

I) Pavilion of Commodity Trade 

 

Exhibition Section for Commodities from the 10 ASEAN Countries

 

This section focuses on showcasing oil and chemical products, mineral products, chemical raw materials, electronics and electrical appliances, office supplies, rubber and its products, timber and its products, palm oil and its products, ASEAN handicrafts, agricultural produce and foodstuffs, etc.

 

Exhibition Section for Chinese Commodities

 

1) Machinery and Equipment: This section will be a showcase for automobile and component parts, food processing and packaging machinery, agricultural machinery, engineering machinery, power-generating machinery, etc.

 

2) Electronics and Electrical Appliances: This section will focus on the showcasing of telecommunication equipment, Internet equipment, computers and support facilities, digital products, household appliances, etc.

 

3) Building Materials and Household Ware: This section will be a showcase for building materials, decorative materials, sanitary wares, lamps and lighting fixtures, etc.

 

4) Agricultural Materials, Agricultural Produce and Foodstuffs: This section will focus on the showcasing of the agricultural materials (pesticides, agricultural-use films, seeds, fertilizers), agricultural produce and green foodstuffs, etc.

 

II) Pavilion of Investment Cooperation 

 

This section is featured by the "Go Global" of Chinese enterprises (representing overseas investment of Chinese enterprises), and will focus on international project contracting, human resource cooperation, overseas processing trade, resource development, agricultural cooperation, market analysis, project demonstration and related financial services. This section will present investment-attracting projects of urban development as well as various economic and technological development zones in China and ASEAN countries, by briefing on investment policies and environments, releasing project information and holding business talks.

 

III) Pavilion of Agricultural Advanced and Applicable Technology 

 

This section will focus on plantation and animal husbandry technologies, agricultural produce intensive processing technologies, bio-technologies, energy-saving and green technologies, new materials and new energy sources, and will demonstrate the advanced and applicable technologies of Chinese enterprises that cater to the ASEAN market. Project negotiations will be held to promote technological transferring and cooperation between China and the 10 ASEAN countries.

 

IV) Pavilion of Cities of Charm

 

China and the 10 ASEAN countries will choose one city from each country that represents the unique flavor of their respective country to be part the "Cities of Charm" to be promoted at the CAEXPO. This section is also open to scenic spots/resorts, traveling routes and tourist services projects of other countries/regions, aiming to comprehensively showcase business opportunities within each country regarding tourism, culture, education, science and technology and social development, etc.
