About 1,300 hi-tech firms have been set up in Shanghai in recent years by young overseas trained Chinese students, using their state-of-the-art technology.
Sources with the Shanghai Municipal government said those people and firms have become part of the driving force behind Shanghai's rapid progress in science and technology and productivity.
About 25,000 young professionals trained overseas have returned to Shanghai, the largest industrial city in China, to start their businesses in recent years. The figure represents about one fifth of the country's total.
Three State software centers have been set up in Shanghai for those elite professionals.
An improved investment environment, huge domestic market and vigorous government support has made it increasingly attractive for young professionals to come back and start businesses in China.
