World's express giants UPS, TNT, and DHL stepped up their competition for market share in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality in December.
An insider with the express business said that the foreign express giants' moves echo the Ministry of Commerce circular stipulating that foreign enterprises can independently undertake international cargo transportation.
An official with the UPS said that the company has made efforts to establish a foreign owned express company in Chongqing, and is now working on details.
DHL is considering buying China's largest logistics enterprise -- Huayu Group and the whole process will be completed in the first half of 2006.
Chongqing's open "navigation rights" are another attraction for foreign express companies. UPS and TNT are considering open cargo flights to China's inland cities via Chongqing.
