Export of Electronic Information Products to Exceed US$250b

Chinese Ministry of Information Industry forecasts that China's exports of electronic information products this year will exceed US$250 billion, or one-third of the country's total exports, Economic Daily reported Wednesday.

The paper cited sources from the annual national information industry conference held Tuesday in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu province, as saying that the electric information industry has taken the most share in China's exports, compared with other industries in China.

Statistics from the ministry showed that in the first ten months this year, China exported a total of US$210.4 billion worth of electronic information products, about 34 percent of the country's total exports.

Overseas information companies have been the key impetus to boost China's information industry. The ministry said that overseas funds totaling US$100 billion has been injected into China's information industry by the end of 2004, with the establishment of over 10,000 foreign-funded companies.

Currently, over 90 percent of giant information companies among the world top 500 have made investment in China, said the ministry.

According to the ministry, China's exports of electronic information products first exceeded US$100 billion in 2003,and topped US$200 billion in 2004.

Vice minister Lou Qinjian of the information industry said the sector will maintain the high-speed growth in 2006, with the growth rate of exports forecast between 10 percent and 20 percent.

In 2006, the ministry will attach more attention on developing the software industry, the new generation mobile telecom, digital TV, Internet service and other rising sectors, Lou said.
