US Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the Patent and Trademark Office Todd Dickinson yesterday praised Hong Kong Customs for its efforts to curb piracy and counterfeiting activities.
Dickinson made the remarks when touring the Seizures Identification Office of the Customs and Excise Department at the Chai Wan Government Logistic Center.
He is now in Hong Kong to update himself on the latest policies and enforcement action on intellectual property rights (IPR).
The visit began with a briefing on the process of seizure identification regarding copyright cases given by Assistant Commissioner of Customs and Excise Control and Intellectual Property Vincent Poon Yeung-kwong.
Poon assured the visitor that eliminating violation of intellectual property rights has been high on his agenda.
"We shall continue until we have seen the very small backside of the pirate sailing away from Hong Kong," Poon stressed.
Dickinson applauded Hong Kong Customs for the significant effort and resources that it has devoted to IPR enforcement and underlined the US hope that Hong Kong Customs will sustain its vigorous anti-piracy effort.
