Commitment to Further Nuclear Talks Hailed

China's top legislator Wu Bangguo said on Friday that a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula meets the interests of all parties.

Wu's statement was cited by Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Wang Yi when he was interviewed by Chinese journalists Friday before the conclusion of Wu's visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, had just finished a three-day official goodwill visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

During the visit, Wu had an in-depth exchange of views on the nuclear issue with DPRK leaders, Wang said.

Wu stated fully China's principled stance on the nuclear issue, and stressed that no matter what difficulties or turns and twists might occur, the correct direction of staying with dialogue should be abided by, according to Wang.

China believes the six-party talks are conducive to this trend and thus should be carried on in the future, Wang added.

The DPRK's agreement on Thursday in principle to continue the six-party talks process sent an important and active signal to the world, Wang said.

China supports rational proposals of all the parties concerned and believes that concerns of the DPRK and the United States should be resolved simultaneously, Wang said.

"It is important that all parties concerned should adopt an active and practical attitude by narrowing differences and expanding consensus, so as to create necessary conditions and make relevant preparation for the next round of the six-party talks," Wang stressed.
