A senior official of Beijing revealed a detailed profile of SARS patients in Beijing Tuesday. According to him, 1,391 patients, or 73.33 percent, are young, aged between 20 and 50.
Cai Fuchao, director of the publicity department of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), made the announcement at a press conference on May 6.
He said that the number of confirmed SARS cases in Beijing by 10 am May 5 had totaled 1,897.
SARS Age Group Profile Beijing:
0-20: 169 cases (8.90%)
20-50: 1,391 cases (73.33%)
21-30: 677 cases
31-40: 382 cases
41-50: 332 cases
50+: 337 cases (17.77%)
SARS Gender Profile Beijing:
Male: 955 cases (50.34%)
Female: 942 cases (49.66%)
SARS Profession Profile Beijing:
Medical workers: 335 cases (17.66%)
Officials and clerks: 229 cases (12.67%)
Retirees: 198 cases (10.44%)
Cai said that confirmed cases of pre-school children was 8 (0.42%); 136 cases were students of primary, secondary and vocational schools and institutes of higher learning (7.17%); 9 farmers in suburban Beijing were patients (0.47%).
