A charter air service from Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, to Hong Kong will soon be put into operation, said a senior official of China Southwest Airlines.
It is the 11th air route from Lhasa, on the Roof of the World, to other cities following services to such cities as Chengdu, Chongqing, Beijing, Shanghai, Xining, and Katmandu, the capital of Nepal.
The opening of the new air route will help relieve traffic jams at peak tourism times in the region, sources said.
Other than road traffic, flights are the most important way to connect Tibet to the outside, especially in recent years when the region has been experiencing fast-growing tourism.
