China's Copyright Law should be refined to build on the copyright protection the law has already offered in its past 10 years, according to some officials and legal experts.
Some provisions in the current law are lagging behind new situations due to rapid economic, scientific and cultural development, said National Copyright Administration Commissioner Yu Youxian at the 10th anniversary conference Wednesday in Beijing.
More provisions must be added because the anti-piracy regulations are not strong enough to resist nowadays rampant piracy, said Yu. The increase of digital networks and multimedia also require copyright protection.
Xu Jialu, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress, said legislators will consider expert's opinions when amending the law.
Chinese courts handled 30,091 intellectual property rights cases, including 3,411 related to copyright, the People's Supreme Court statistics showed.
