A key highway linking southwest China's Sichuan Province with neighboring Tibet Autonomous Region reopened to traffic at 8 p.m. Monday, six days after a massive landslide blocked the road.
Traffic on the key road was completely cut off after a landslide on July 11 blocked the road and a nearby river, and caused a 400-meter-long section of road to become submerged.
After days and nights of around-the-clock rescue work a one-waynew road was built for traffic, using explosives and stone construction materials.
Thanks to the new road, the 1,000 vehicles blocked on the road were moved from the site. The road is also being expanded more andreinforced.
