Now they are the shining stars on stage full of confidence and charisma, but what were they like when they were 18?

Hunan Television had invited a host of celebrities to share their "18-year-old" stories with young people in promoting a program that was aired on May 4th, "Youth Day," to celebrate those turning 18.

Yang Lan, a wife and a mother, a business woman and a talk show host, reflected upon her own teenage years, saying she didn't know what she'd do in the future back then. Yang, who still remembers her school sweetheart, said that the innocence of her youth is a cherished part of her life.

Like many others of her generation, at 18 Yang Lan was a big fan of Hong Kong heartthrob Chow Run-fat, and considered him her prince charming.

Taiwan magician Liu Qian and rising actress Qin Lan also recalled their stories.

Liu Qian met her first love that year but later split up, which left the young man deeply upset. It was a magician who helped him out by showing him the amazing power of magic and helped Liu to get his very first commercial magic show.

The magician said becoming 18 was the turning point in his life, when he began to think about the future like an adult.

While for "City of Life and Death" star Qin Lan, her 18th birthday was memorable as she celebrated that day with friends and family.

The actress liked Leon Lai at the time and never expected she would one day turn out to be a star herself.

Also that year, the actress earned a small sum of money for fronting and advertising campaign.

She recalls shedding tears over the loss of her grandmother when she went into a store to pick up gifts for her parents, only to realize she was unable to buy a gift for her beloved grandma who had brought her up.
