Never denying her inherent "rebellious" streak, the actress opens her heart revealing that managing to go this far in showbiz has much to do with her "emulative" attitude.
Some think Huang is relaxing her work ethic recently after being seen less frequently on screen. In response to the accusation, Huang smiled claiming, "an actor cannot control everything. The best actors may not necessarily be the most famous and some very good actors are unable to do as much as they would like to. But you just can't complain."
In her latest work, Yu Lik-wai's Plastic City or Dang Kou, Huang plays the owner of a dance club. She moved away from her typical screen persona to take up the difficult role. Huang Yi claims that it was a conscious choice in an effort to focus on quality projects rather than quantity.
Over the years the actress has raised her profile to a new level by taking a series of diverse roles allowing her talent to blossom. People remain impressed with her unaffected early performance in Wrong Carriage, Right Groom which saw her shoot to fame in 1999.
