Hundreds of thousands of Chinese people on Sunday flooded the mausoleum of Fu Xi in Huaiyang in central Henan province to worship the mythical primogenitor.

In Chinese mythology, Fu Xi is the descendant of the Dragon, and is traditionally honored on the second day of the second lunar month, which was this past Sunday.

Chinese legend hails Fu Xi, Shen Nong and Huang Di as the three primary ancestors of human civilization. Fu Xi is the inventor of writing, fishing and trapping, according to the legend.

Fu Xi, who died in Huaiyang according to the legend, has turned the small county into a hot destination for travelers, especially root-seeking overseas Chinese.
