Temporary hospital successfully delivers baby
The People's Liberation Army has set up a number of temporary hospitals in quake-hit areas to provide emergency surgery and medical treatment. One PLA hospital conducted a 10-hour, life-saving feat to help a pregnant woman deliver her child.
Troops deliver aid to remote areas
Several thousand aftershocks have jolted Wenchuan creating more difficulties for rescuers trying to deliver emergency supplies to survivors trapped in remote mountainous areas.
Relief materials distributed smoothly in Sichuan
Relief goods and materials have been continuously transported to Sichuan Province from around the country. The local government has organized special personnel to send goods to the survivors to ensure their basic needs.
China forms relief quake advisory group
The government has also formed an advisory group that will provide guidance on the rescue and relief work following the massive earthquake in Sichuan. The group will also advise on the reconstruction of the quake-devastated area.
China quake latest death toll rises to 41,353
As of midday Wednesday, the official death toll had reached 41,353. The State Council says 40,854 of these were in Sichuan province. 274,683 other people were injured and 32,666 are still missing.
