A survey publicized by the Taiwan authority on Tuesday showed that more than 66 percent of Taiwan residents believed achievements reached in the latest cross-Straits talk will bring benefit to the island's economic development.

The Chinese mainland and Taiwan signed three agreements to boost cross-Straits ties in the third talk between Chen Yunlin, head of the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) and Chiang Pin-kung, head of the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), which concluded on April 26 in Nanjing, capital of the east Jiangsu Province.

The three agreements are on aviation, financial cooperation and criminal justice cooperation.

A total of 78.8 percent of the interviewees were satisfied with the agreement on jointly cracking down on crimes, 71.8 percent were satisfied with the aviation agreement and 58.8 percent were happy with the financial cooperation agreement.

Additionally, 64.5 percent of the interviewees said they were satisfied with the consensus for two-way investments for enterprises which was also achieved in the talk.

Commissioned by the Taiwan authority's mainland affairs department, the Taiwan-based China Credit Information Service surveyed 1,068 Taiwan residents aged 20 to 69 via telephone between April 28 and 30.

An official with the mainland affairs department said issues discussed in the latest talk between Chen Yunlin and Chiang Pin-kung are critical to the protection of the rights and interests of the people living in both sides of the Straits as well as the maintenance of order in cross-Straits exchanges.

The result of the survey showed that the authority's cross-Straits policies are backed by the majority of Taiwan people and the authority will continue to promote the cross-Straits consultations in a practical way, the official said.
