ALMATY, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Ten people were killed and four others were injured in Kazakhstan in two separate road accidents that occurred on Thursday and Friday, the national highway operator KazAvtoZhol said Friday in a statement.
Six people, including a road worker, were killed and two others injured in an accident in the Almaty Region, southeastern Kazakhstan, on Friday morning. According to reports, a speeding minivan crashed into a wheeled tractor during road maintenance work on the highway.
Preliminary findings indicate that the minivan driver was speeding and attempted to overtake a heavy vehicle using the right-hand lane, entering a cordoned-off section of the road and colliding with maintenance equipment.
The other accident occurred on Thursday morning, killing four people and injuring two others in a collision between a minivan and a backhoe loader on a highway in the Zhambyl Region, southern Kazakhstan.
The minivan driver failed to observe the speed limit or maintain a safe distance, leading to a crash with the specialized vehicle traveling in the same direction, according to a preliminary report.
A criminal investigation is currently underway.
According to official statistics, 15,698 road accidents were recorded across the country in the first half of 2025, marking a 54 percent year-on-year increase. Enditem
