China on Tuesday pledged to work with the international community to promote the UN conference on climate change to be held in Paris at the end of this year to achieve a new agreement.

The agreement should be comprehensive, balanced and strong, and be achieved on the basis of the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, said Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in his meeting with Mogens Lykketoft, president of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly.

Speaking highly of China's efforts in maintaining world peace, promoting global development and adapting development agenda, Lykketoft said he hoped China would continue to play a positive role in coping with global challenges including the climate change.

The Paris Conference will be a milestone in the multilateral process on climate change, as it will set up post-2020 international regimes to tackle this challenge.

China is ready to work with other countries to fulfill the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Li said.

The 2030 Agenda, outlining goals to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030, was adopted by world leaders at the UN development summit in September.

China will support the UN to play a bigger role in global affairs, and work with other countries to abide by the UN Charter to promote world peace, stability and development, he added.

The two sides also exchanged view on international and regional issues of common concern.

Lykketoft, who used to be the speaker of the Danish Parliament, was elected president of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in June, and started his one-year term in September. Endi
