Chinese legislators and political advisors on Friday called on the whole society to cherish the current social stability and harmonious situation and wholeheartedly build a stronger nation.

Legislator Zhu Guoping from Shanghai said after more than six decades of endeavors, the Chinese people have turned a poor, backward Old China into a dynamic, flourishing New China.

"Without social stability, that could not have been achieved," Zhu said.

"We all hope the motherland can become even stronger and the people can live even a wealthier and happier life. We must cherish the hard-won social stability and unity," she said.

China has entered its 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) period, key for the country to build a moderately well-off society in an all-round way.

Legislators and political advisors attending the annual parliamentary session in Beijing urged the public to focus their attention on the country's development to push for building a prosperous, democratic and civilized socialist country.

"Without stability, we can do nothing," said political advisor Memet Hasan from northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region that was rocked by a deadly riot almost two years ago.

"The central government has drawn a blueprint for Xinjiang's future development. A stable social situation is vital for Xinjiang's future," he said.

Legislator Fu Chunli of the Xibo ethnic group said no country can achieve development in turmoil.

"Without stability, a country will even lose its fruits of past development. Meanwhile, no one could has his own happiness without a stable society," she said.

Zhu Yilong, a member of the CPPCC National Committee, said he was proud of being a Chinese particularly for the government's recent endeavor to evacuate more than 30,000 Chinese nationals from turbulent Libya.

"Without strong national strength, sound foreign relations and high efficiency in responding to crisis, this unprecedented evacuation would be absolutely unimaginable," said Zhu, who had been living abroad for a number of years.

Political advisor Chen Zhilie, an entrepreneur in hi-tech industry, said social stability is a guarantee for the development of businesses.

"Our company will surely have a brighter prospect because we have a strong nation behind us," Chen said.

Zhu Xueqin said she had witnessed rapid progress being made in improving the well-being of migrant workers in big cities such as Shanghai.

"More children of migrant workers have been enrolled in schools in Shanghai like their urban peers as government strives to guarantee their equal rights to education," said Zhu, an NPC deputy and a sales manager at the Shanghai Huari Apparel Co. Ltd.

"I think this has been a big step forward," she said.
