A political advisor on Wednesday slashed empty talks among some government and Party officials, saying these officials care more about their own careers than the interests of the people.

"Stereotyped meetings and red tapes are full of cliches, nonsense, empty talks, political jargons, and lies," said Zhu Zhenzhong, chairman of the Guangzhou municipal committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Some officials only care about how to impress their superiors in implementing the central government's policies and their daily work, instead of being practical and realistic, said Zhu addressing a plenary meeting of the ongoing annual session of the CPPCC National Committee.

Some other officials, he said, were too eager for instant success and interests.

"They demand everything be the biggest, the fastest, the best, ... in disregard of whether conditions permit, whether society needs those things, and whether those things can be done at all," he said.

"In the end they report only good news and dismiss the bad, or resort to deception and fraud in worse cases," Zhu said.

He also criticized officials who went after costing and ostentatious projects which were "impressive to look at but are of no pragmatic uses," Zhu said.

Such behaviors have "damaged the ties between the public and the government or the Party, undermined the government and the Party's image, corrupted the officials, and tarnished the standard conduct of the Party, the government and the society," he said.

The political advisor said those officials did not put people first, but were instead obsessed with their own career promotions.

He called on the central leadership to take effective measures to strengthen education and supervision of officials, and to improve the current official promotion system.
