A joint celebration by kids from both China and other countries along the Belt and Road can greatly boost their friendship and promote people-to-people exchanges, said Tang Wensheng, former Chinese diplomat and former vice chairwoman of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF).

Tang made the remark to China.org.cn reporters in Beijing on Wednesday, a day before the International Children's Day, on the sideline of a grand celebration drawing some 700 Chinese and foreign young people from the Belt and Road countries.

"Tomorrow will be June 1. …I'm sure that all of us here, the grown-ups, and people who are not here will all wish the children in the world a happy and healthy childhood and to grow up and to build a better world for all the people,"she said.

The half-day event, themed "Dream of the Future in Belt and Road Young Hearts," was organized by the CSCLF and mainly featured children's singing, dancing, painting exhibition, robot performances as well as the experiencing of traditional Chinese culture.

It aims to promote communication between young people from countries along the Belt and Road, a major consensus reached at the latest Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, said the organizer.
