Cai Mingzhao, director of the State Council Information Office, made the remarks on Friday when meeting with participants in the 2013 Fortune Global Forum that opened on Thursday in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The Internet has been playing a remarkable role in making government information more transparent as well as promoting citizens' rights to know, express, participate and supervise, Cai told the representatives, including officials from renowned enterprises such as DreamWorks, Intel, WPP and Lenovo.

However, it has also raised new challenges, including the cyber security issue, he said.

Countries may have different concerns over the same matter, as the Internet's popularity, technical level, culture and tradition as well as laws vary internationally, Cai said.

Internet security is a complicated issue, and all countries should understand and learn from others' experiences, seek agreements while reserving divergences and fully respect other countries' efforts in this regard, according to the official.

He said China values other countries' experiences in developing and administering the Internet and is willing to conduct more exchanges and cooperation in combating online crimes, enhancing cyber-related legislation and promoting public awareness in relevant field.

Cai also called on influential international media and communication companies to introduce the real China to the world objectively.
