2010 marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Hong Kong has retained its international features, rule by law and various kinds of freedoms guaranteed by the Basic Law after its return to the motherland in 1997. The Basic Law has laid a solid foundation for Hong Kong's economic and social development and the improvement of people's livelihood.

The Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was adopted on April 4, 1990 by the Seventh National People's Congress (NPC) of the PRC. It came into effect on July 1, 1997. More>>

 

The Basic Law is the constitutional document for the HKSAR. It enshrines within a legal document the important concepts of "One Country, Two Systems", "a high degree of autonomy" and "Hong Kong People ruling Hong Kong". It also prescribes the various systems to be practised in the HKSAR. More>>
