German engineering giant Siemens has won an order of 100 high-speed trains for China's Beijing- Shanghai high-speed railway, the company announced in Munich on Friday.

Siemens will supply components worth 750 million euros (1 billion U.S. dollars) for the Velaro trains, which will be assembled in China and used on the Beijing-Shanghai route from 2010.

"This new order from China is especially gratifying to us because together we will be supplying the first vehicles for the Beijing-Shanghai route, the most important high speed line in the country," said Hans-Joerg Grundmann, CEO of the Mobility Division in the Siemens Industry Sector.

"Moreover, we will strengthen the long-term cooperation with our Chinese partners in a high speed market that, in future, will be the largest in the world," he added.

The Velaro, a development of Siemen's successful express train model used in Germany, has a total length of 400 meters, making it world's longest single train used in high-speed transportation.

Siemens has already delivered 11 high-speed trains to China out of an earlier order for 60.
