China exported agricultural products worth 40.19 billion in 2008, up 9.8 percent year on year, according to China Customs.
A report issued by China Customs said the exports kept a stable pace, with monthly exports value steadily at 3 billion to 3.5 billion U.S. dollars, except for February, when the traditional Spring Festival disrupted regular business operations.
According to the report, the exports of agricultural products has seen steep drop in the latter half, with the exports in November and December down by 6.9 percent and 7.2 percent respectively year-on-year.
China has raised the export tax rebates for some agricultural products, and reduced or canceled the export duty for some grains to protect farmers interest and promote exports.
But the report estimated the downturn trend would not be reversed in the near future, as drop in international prices for farm produce reduced the competitiveness of Chinese goods. Concerns for food security would also reduce potential orders, it said.
