Chinese President Hu Jintao said Thursday that China is willing to strengthen the dialogue, exchanges and cooperation with the United States so as to further promote their positive, cooperative and comprehensive relations.

Hu made the remarks when meeting his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama on the sidelines of the fifth Group of 20 (G20) summit, which is slated for Thursday and Friday.

China believes that good Sino-U.S. ties are not only in the interests of the two countries and two peoples, but also conform to the world peace, stability and development, he said.h Hu thanked Obama for inviting him to visit the United States next year, and hailed the preparations on both sides ahead of his visit.

"I hope and believe the visit will be a success," he said.

"The G20 summit will start tonight. I'm confident that positive results will be achieved at the summit with concerted efforts from all parties concerned," the Chinese leader said.

During the meeting, Obama said he and Hu have met several times already.

"China-U.S. relations have become stronger over the last few years. We discussed a whole range of issues, not only bilaterally, but world issues," he said.

"As two leading nuclear powers, obviously we get special obligation to deal with issues of nuclear proliferation. As two of the world's leading economies, we have special obligation to deal with ensuring strong, balanced and sustainable growth," Obama said.

The U.S. president said he is very much looking forward to hosting President Hu in Washington.

"We've created a strategic and economic dialogue in which our teams have been working on a whole range of issues. And we are seeing significant progress," Obama added.

This is the third meeting between Hu and Obama in eight months. They met in Washington in April, and in Toronto, Canada, in June.

Hu arrived here Thursday for the G20 summit, which will address the challenges to the ongoing global economic recovery from a world financial crisis and pave ways for future sustainable and balanced growth.
