Chinese leaders as WEF participants in last five years

A Chinese delegation was first invited to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 1979. Since then, a number of senior Chinese leaders have attended WEF annual meetings.

In the last five years, late Vice Premier Huang Ju, then Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan, then State Councilor Hua Jianmin and Premier Wen Jiabao participated in the annual meetings at the Swiss alpine town of Davos.

On Jan. 29, 2005, Chinese Vice Premier Huang attended the 2005 annual meeting of the WEF in Davos and delivered a speech on the scientific concept of development and China's economy.

Huang said in his speech that the Chinese government is committed to applying the scientific concept of development to guide socio-economic development. He added that China strongly supports and actively participates in international cooperation on economic and social development.

On Jan. 26, 2006, Chinese Vice Premier Zeng attended the 2006 WEF annual meeting and delivered a special speech to introduce China's policies and measures on its economic and social development.

In his address, Zeng also called for more economic cooperation between China and the rest of the world to achieve mutual benefit.

On Jan. 25, 2007, Chinese State Councilor Hua attended the 2007 annual meeting of the WEF and said in his speech that China will adhere to its people-centered policy in its new approach to development.

On Jan. 24, 2008, Chinese Vice Premier Zeng attended the 2008 WEF annual meeting and gave a speech. Zeng said that China will try to maintain a steady and fairly fast economic growth and deepen the reform of the economic system.

He also promised that China is ready to work with the international community to meet common challenges.

On Jan. 28, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen attended the 2009 WEF annual meeting and gave a speech which elaborated on the measures China has taken to deal with the financial crisis.

In his address, Wen expressed optimism that China's economy will continue to grow fast and steadily. He also called for confidence, cooperation and responsibility in overcoming the global financial crisis
