Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, also known as Beijing E-Town in the city's southeastern area, is set to become a major hub for advanced industries, as it aims for a regional GDP of 500 billion yuan ($68.98 billion) by 2030.

The area has also set targets of 1 trillion yuan in both industrial output and producer services revenue, alongside attracting over 10,000 high-skilled professionals by the end of the decade.

At the heart of these ambitions is the 5.8-square-kilometer BioPark, an international biopharma innovation hub. The park has already attracted global pharmaceutical leaders like Bayer, Pfizer, and Medtronic. Notably, only 1 square kilometer of the compound is dedicated to buildings, with the rest consisting of parks and green spaces to foster a balanced environment for research, production, and leisure. This year alone, BioPark is expected to draw investments exceeding 10 billion yuan.

Beijing E-Town is also positioning itself as a fully AI-powered city with plans to establish a cutting-edge AI data training center. The area will strengthen its auto manufacturing sector by upgrading Beijing Mercedes-Benz operations and supporting Xiaomi's goal of producing over 1 million vehicles annually by 2030. Its autonomous driving zone will expand to over 3,000 square kilometers, while the Beijing Embodied Artificial Intelligence Robotics Innovation Center will help to accelerate the development of robotics.

Looking ahead, Beijing E-Town is investing in strategic sectors such as 6G, quantum computing, wind energy, and new energy storage. The region is also advancing research in gene therapy, health data management, and AI-powered medical treatments, securing its status as a hub for future-oriented industries.

To sustain this growth, Beijing E-Town will establish seven support systems, spanning innovation, talent, finance, land use, and green development. By 2030, it will complete 2,000 science and technology transformation projects, reinforcing its position as a leading hub for high-end industries and technological innovation.
