Wei Dichun is Vice President of China Central Television (CCTV). Mr. Wei joined CCTV as Vice President in October 2010. His main areas of responsibility are supervising the CCTV-Business Channel, the CCTV-International Channel in Chinese, and the CCTV-Social and the Legal Affairs Channel, in addition to overseeing CCTV's international communications. From September 1989 to September 2010, he worked for the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and in March 2009, he was appointed as Deputy Secretary-general of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.He graduated in July 1989 from Renmin University of China with a LL.M (Master of Laws) degree, majoring in international politics.

Abstract

The Silk Road Economic Belt is a strategic concept which is of great significance and far-reaching influence. To turn this concept into reality we should adopt concrete measures to boost the economic and trade relations among the countries along this ancient route while at the same time enhancing communication and mutual trust amongst China and these nations.As a main channel of information transmission, the media plays a vital role in promoting communication among countries, strengthening mutual understanding among their peoples and reaching a consensus on cooperation, which makes it an important force in building the Silk Road Economic Belt. As China's national television station, CCTV is deemed the most influential and competitive mainstream media outlet in the country boasting both platform and communication advantages. Over the course of building the Silk Road Economic Belt, CCTV will shoulder the responsibility as a national media outlet by bringing its features and advantages to full play. Through various means such as news reports, documentaries, film and TV series, evening parties and media activities, CCTV aims at elaborating on the strategic concept of the Silk Road Economic Belt. CCTV will present a panoramic view of people's lives along this route and disseminate vivid stories about friendly exchanges between various peoples throughout the ages, so as to provide a sound media support for the furthering of friendship, cultural exchange, trade ties and strategic mutual trust among the Silk Road countries.
