Honda Prospect Motor, the sole agent for Japanese automaker Honda in Indonesia, would recall 30, 252 units vehicles in Indonesia as part of a worldwide voluntary safety recall, a media reported here Monday.

The recall on the Jazz hatchback, City Sedan and Freed compact minivan models would start on February 28 for Java island and March 2 for outside of the island, the Jakarta globe daily reported.

Honda said it will replace a component called a lost motion spring" for engines in the three Honda brands produced between 2008 and 2010.

The component serves as link to the rocker arm when the car engine runs at low rpms.

Honda said it had found evidence that the parts were vulnerable to breakage, which could result in high surface pressure between the lost-motion-spring retainers and rocker arm slippers and could result in the broken spring coming into contact with other moving parts within the cylinder head, initially producing noise, and in the worst case causing the engine to stall.

There have been 15 cases associated with damage to these components in Indonesia, but no reports of accidents or injuries, Honda said.

The recall affects 3,360 units of Honda City produced between October 2008 and January 2010; 16,300 units of Honda Jazz produced between June 2008 and March 2010 and 10,592 units of Honda Freed produced between May 2009 and Feb. 2010. "It is our responsibility to ensure that all our products are in the highest standards in terms of safety and quality, even when the products have been in the hands of consumers for years. Therefore, this program is part of ongoing evaluation that we make to all products to achieve customer satisfaction," said Yukihiro Aoshima President Director of Honda Prospect Motor.

Honda on Thursday said it was recalling 693,497 vehicles worldwide, including as many as 220,000 units in Southeast Asia, due to the defective parts.
