China's stocks closed lower in the morning trading session Tuesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 37 points, or 1.33 percent, to close at 2,744.41 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 1.72 percent, or 211.39 points, to end at 12,091.80 points at midday.
