Three airlines are allowed to cut passenger fuel surcharges in September, including All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines, the Civil Aviation Department of Hong Kong announced on Friday.

The maximum fuel-surcharge for short-haul flights will fall one percent to 97 HK dollars while that for long-haul flights will drop 5 percent to 481 HK dollars. The applicable surcharge levels are based on the ticket issue date.

The surcharges allow airlines to partially recover the rise in operational costs due to aviation fuel price fluctuations. The department considers and approves airlines' fuel surcharge applications in accordance with bilateral Air Services Agreements.
