Singapore has lifted the suspension on the import of milk and milk products from China, the country's Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said in a statement Thursday.

The AVA says it is satisfied with the control measures in place to ensure that milk and milk products from China are not contaminated with melamine.

"Products produced on or after Dec. 18 will be allowed to be imported into Singapore," the AVA said.

Manufacturers are also required to inspect and test each batch of their raw materials and end products to ensure that they are melamine-free, and products must then be issued health certificates by the Chinese authorities before they are exported to Singapore.

The import of all milk and milk products from China has been suspended in Singapore since Sept. 19, 2008.
