Fang Fang (方方) was born Wang Fang in Nanjing in 1955. In 1978, she was admitted to the Chinese department of Wuhan University. She started to publish novels during her university days. Upon graduation, she landed a job as editor at a Hubei TV Station, writing the footage for several documentaries and TV series.

In 1989, Fang was admitted to the Hubei Writers Association. She is now a member of the National Committee of the Chinese Writers Association, chairman of the Hubei Writers Association as well as president and editor-in-chief of Yangtze River Art and Literature Magazine.

Thus far, she has won the First Prize for New Poems awarded to her by Poetry Magazine. Her novellas "Scenery" and "Broken Harmonica" won her the National Excellent Novella Award.

Several of Fang's other works gained her a few heavyweight literary awards, including the Hundreds of Followers Award given to her by Fiction Monthly and the Chinese Women Literature Prize, which she has actually won many times.

She has published over 80 novels and essays. Her novels have thus far been translated into English, French, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese and Korean.
