Chinese animated sensation "Ne Zha 2" recently smashed through the 10-billion-yuan (about US$1.39 billion) mark in ticket receipts, making it the 17th highest-grossing film of all time.

The blockbuster's success is inseparable from collaboration among several Beijing-based film companies, with industry leader Enlight Media spearheading production and distribution while Phenom Films delivered the film's visual effects.

The Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau has long contributed to the animation industry through initiatives supporting talent cultivation, infrastructure development, and technological innovation. In 2022, guidelines for the high-quality development of Beijing's animation industry were released to encourage companies to integrate self-developed technologies with the animation sector.

In addition, several major films released during the 2025 Spring Festival holiday, such as "Detective Chinatown 1900," "Operation Hadal," and "The Legend of the Condor Heroes," were all produced by film companies in Beijing. As of Feb. 10, the combined box office of these three films had exceeded 3.8 billion yuan, highlighting the strength of Beijing's film industry.

Beijing has also become a popular filming location for many well-known productions. The popular TV drama "The Tale of Rose," for instance, was shot at 260 locations across six districts in Beijing, featuring landmarks such as the Drum Tower, the Bird's Nest, and Beijing Capital International Airport. This was made possible by the city's streamlined filming service mechanism, which has been in place since April 2024. This mechanism involves coordination between municipal and district-level departments to provide location and information services for film and TV productions.

Filming in Beijing has given a strong boost to local tourism and related industries, turning filming locations into popular attractions. This surge in interest has driven significant spending across dining, entertainment, fashion, and cultural merchandise, contributing hundreds of millions of yuan to the local economy.

To further optimize the business environment and facilitate communication between the government and enterprises, Beijing's broadcasting authority has adopted an integrated communication mechanism combining online platforms with traditional face-to-face consultations. This initiative has expanded its reach to major cultural and creative industry parks across the city, benefiting over 700 enterprises.
