Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Good Morning!

As people from every corner of the globe engage in meaningful exchanges and present the various achievements of their civilizations at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair, we are honored to hold a seminar and introduce the book Why and How the CPC Works in China in the hometown of Karl Marx. On behalf of China International Publishing Group, I extend my warmest welcome to all our guests.

As we all know, Karl Marx was the founder of scientific communism and the pioneer of the modern international communist movement. The Communist Manifesto, coauthored by him and Friedrich Engels, was published in London in February 1848. This symbolized the birth of Marxism and has influenced the beliefs and pursuits of generations of Chinese communists. The members of the Communist Party of China firmly believe that the basic principles of Marxism are irrefutable truth. Also, they always strive to apply Marxist theory to China’s realities and the characteristics of the times. As such, we have set out on a road of development with Chinese characteristics that has deeply impacted China’s reform and growth. In a time of economic globalization and financial crises, further attention to scientific Marxism is more warranted than ever before. Therefore, this seminar and book introduction has a special commemorative meaning. To express our commemoration and respect to Karl Marx and his Communist Manifesto as well as the Chinese people’s profound friendship with the German people, I would like to present to the Karl Marx House Museum 10 copies of the Chinese version of Why and How the CPC Works in China, 30 copies of the English version published by New World Press and 100 copies of English version published by New Class Press. I hope this book gives you a more objective and comprehensive understanding of today’s China that is ever developing.

China and Germany are two nations with long histories and splendid cultures. As I understand it, many Chinese have got to know the thousands-of-year-old town of Trier because of Marx. Quite a few travel agencies have opened tours to Trier. An old Chinese saying goes: One eye witness is better than ten hear sayers. German friends are welcome to come to China to experience its development and change and enhance communication and cooperation with Chinese. We hope to make positive contributions to a new chapter of China-Germany relationship with our efforts.

Thank you!
