Fans began to gather outside Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, Los Angeles early Friday to visit Michael Jackson's grave site on the one-year anniversary of his death.

Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Jackson fans are expected to file past the King of Pop's final resting place, organizers said.

Access to the mausoleum is restricted, but fans who want to pay respects to Jackson will be permitted to walk in front of the mausoleum and leave flowers in a designated area between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. local time.

While fans will be allowed to leave flowers, they are prohibited to bring with them doves, video cameras, candles, balloons, spinners, statues, posters and incense.

Cemetery officials and Glendale police have made it clear they do not want the event to turn into a public spectacle.

Friday's event is part of a series of anniversary activities. Some members of the Jackson family will visit the cemetery, while others are expected to mark the anniversary in their hometown of Gary, Ind., where the singer's mother is scheduled to unveil a monument to her son outside the house where he grew up.
