China to Donate Cash for Quake-Hit Peru
Adjust font size:

The Chinese government will donate US$300,000 in cash to quake-ravaged Peru for disaster relief efforts, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said Sunday.

China has already contributed US$50,000 through the Red Cross organizations of the two countries, Jiang said.

An earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale hit southern Peru on Wednesday, leaving at least 510 people dead, 1,610 injured, and 16,600 families homeless.

The Chinese Embassy in Peru said that a local resident with Chinese origin had been injured in the quake and was moved to a hospital in Lima.

Chinese President Hu Jintao on Thursday sent a message of condolence to his Peruvian counterpart Alan Garcia.
