Heilongjiang Battles Insect Infestation

A farmer sprays pesticide to crop lands in Wangkui county, northeastern China's Heilongjiang Province, on Tuesday, June 26, 2007.

 

Over 760,000 hectares of crop lands, forests and grass in northeastern China's Heilongjiang Province have suffered serious insect infestation since June 5, 2007.

 

Authorities consider the insects' presence severe in some areas, in particular crop lands in Wangkui county where farmers may need to stop production.

 

All kinds of measures are being conducted by local governmental bodies to prevent a disaster by the pests, which include caterpillars.
