A cargo ship loaded with 465 tons of
sulfuric acids that sank in the Yangtze River in east China's
Jiangsu Province on Monday has been salvaged, but two people who
were onboard are still missing, local sources said on
Tuesday.
The cargo ship set off from Zhangjiagang City of the province on
Saturday afternoon and capsized early on Sunday near the second
water supply plant of the city of Yangzhong. Three people were
onboard at the time, but only one was rescued.
The salvaged ship was dragged to an area near a garbage disposal
site in Yangzhong at the lower reaches of the Yangtze and its
contents will be neutralization.
Some leakage of sulfuric acid was reported on Tuesday
evening.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.
