A new theory of balance medicine put forward at the Third International Academic Conference on Balance Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Balance Medicine received wide acknowledgement from the some 280 participants at the conference recently concluded in Haicheng of northeast China's Liaoning Province. Participants came from all over China as well as from many countries and regions including the United States and Republic of Korea.

Wang Wenyuan, director of Treatment and Training Center of Balance Acupuncture & Moxibustion of People's Liberation Army of China, proposed the theory based on his research in balance acupuncture that began at the end of 1960s.

The major cause of diseases in humans is psychological imbalance, Wang said. He gave three standards in evaluating a person's psychological balance: The adaptability of one's mind to social environment, natural environment and family environment. He deduced that over 80 percent of structural diseases result from mental problems, while over 80 percent of mental problems originate from the living environment, which again depends on whether the family environment is fine and whether the conjugal relations are harmonious.

Wang's new approach -- Balance acupuncture and moxibustion is based on traditional Chinese medicine. The treatment, he said, has been applied with a faster curative effect but with no side effects in more than 4,000 hospitals in China and in over 20 other countries including the United States, Britain, France, Canada, Japan and Spain.
