Jiangsu swept Fujian in straight sets on Tuesday to set up a final on Wednesday against Shandong in the senior women's volleyball tournament at China's 15th National Games.
Jiangsu saw off Fujian 25-14, 25-13, 25-19 in 71 minutes for its eighth straight win at the Games.
Dropping the first two sets easily, Fujian fought hard for an 11-8 lead in the third. However, Jiangsu took seven points in a row to retake the lead at 15-11. Fujian managed to pull within two points, but China international Wu Mengjie had three kills and a block to help Jiangsu wrap up the victory with a 5-1 run.
"I have been in good shape recently. I have learned a lot from the Games," said Wu, 23, after the match. "All the teams competing here are pretty strong, and I have learned a lot from playing and watching the star players of every team."
2016 Olympic champion Zhang Changning attributed Jiangsu's victory to the team's good preparations.
"Fujian did a great job against Tianjin in the quarterfinals. We watched that game and prepared well technically and mentally. We knew we needed to play aggressively to win, and happily we were able to do it today," said the 30-year-old.
Later on Tuesday, Shandong defeated Shanghai 25-19, 25-23, 25-20 in the other semifinal.
Shanghai had been in a good position to win the second set after a 5-0 run saw the team lead 22-20 cushion, but Shandong ran off five of the next six points to clinch the set.
"We have secured a medal already, so we will just keep fighting and see what happens tomorrow," said Shandong captain Sun Jie. "Some of our teammates will retire after this Games, and we will savor every moment together."
