Northwestern Beijing's Yanqing district will plan 40 million yuan ($5.84 million) in funding to boost local tourism industry over two years, according to a press conference held in Beijing on July 24.

The fund will support the development of cultural and sports events as well as new industries and tourism products.
"Yanqing is transforming its cultural tourism industry into a pillar industry," stated Yan Haiying, deputy head of Yanqing district, during the press conference. She added that Yanqing will promote a multi-dimensional integration of culture, tourism, sports, commerce, and agriculture, striving to build new tourism products, business formats, and consumption scenarios.

Yanqing boasts iconic sites and events including the Badaling Great Wall, the International Horticultural Exhibition, and the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, attracting numerous Chinese and international tourists.
Data shows that in 2024, Yanqing received 24.55 million tourist visits, a year-on-year increase of 21.1percent. Total tourism revenue reached 13.5 billion yuan, a yearly increase of 10.8 percent. In the first half of this year, the district welcomed 10 million visitors, generating 6.5 billion yuan in tourism revenue. Visitor numbers remained stable compared to the same period last year, while revenue grew by 11.9 percent.
In the coming years, Yanqing will create the Great Wall cultural consumption zone, transform the Beijing Expo Park into a suburban leisure destination, and establish a national-level Haituo International Sports Leisure Tourism Resort.
In addition, Yanqing will develop thematic consumption zones represented by low-altitude tourism at Badaling Airport, landscape sightseeing at Longqing Gorge, and ecological research activities at Wild Duck Lake Wetland.
