Beijing's Summer Palace has deployed 51 AI translation devices to help international tourists as visitor numbers surge during the summer holiday.
The move aims to streamline visitor services and provide real-time language support at key locations throughout the sprawling imperial garden.
"We have provided English training for our staff, but the rise in visitors from non-English speaking countries often leads to misunderstandings," said Han Xiao, head of the palace's management department.
The new AI translation devices can recognize and translate 75 languages and accents, enabling instant, two-way communication.
Dual-screen translation machines operate at the three busiest entrances for real-time translation. Handheld devices are also available at 48 locations, including the visitor service center, boat dock and commercial outlets.
"This device is one of the most convenient tools I've seen for tourist services," said a French tourist.
