Beijing recently launched an action plan to boost trendy lifestyle spending, implementing 21 measures across five areas: developing fashion districts, upgrading cultural events, fostering brand innovation, empowering fashion industries, and enhancing urban aesthetics.
The plan outlines the creation of four international consumption zones, each tailored to different market segments while blending global offerings with local cultural elements.
Additionally, Beijing will accelerate its development into a city of museums by supporting specialized galleries and exhibition spaces. It also plans to certify new performance venues and expanding existing arts clusters.
Emerging lifestyle trends are also featured in the document. Authorities plan to develop "e-sports + anime" complexes in creative hubs, while continuously promoting outdoor activities including water sports and hiking.
The initiative also seeks to elevate Beijing's major cultural events like China Fashion Week and Beijing International Film Festival, and attract top-tier exhibitors and event organizers to establish operations locally.
Brand development support will be offered to flagship stores and concept shops, and different districts will be encouraged to focus on specific sectors, for example, trendy consumer goods in Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chaoyang, Fengtai, and Daxing, and tech gadgets in Haidian, Shijingshan, and Huairou.
Traditional neighborhoods will continue receiving makeovers that preserve architectural heritage while adding modern retail. At the same time, the city will encourage cultural landmarks, historical sites, and parks to partner with Chinese and international brands to host art debuts and fashion showcases.
