German media often highlight the enthusiasm of Chinese fans for sports, particularly football. Today, the tabloid Bild reported on a unique item available to Bayern Munich supporters - a replica of the childhood bed of club icon Thomas Muller.
To mark the German record champion's 125th anniversary, Bayern opened its first-ever pop-up store in the port city of Qingdao.
An official club statement described the initiative as a "symbol of international connection," reflecting Bayern's long-standing ties with China, along with other German clubs.
According to Bild, the pop-up store blends club history with that of Qingdao. Bayern's deputy CEO Michael Diederich said, "FC Bayern has its roots in Munich and Bavaria, but we want to stay closely connected with our fans around the world."
He added that Bayern sees it as an obligation to remain accessible to its global fan base.
VfB Stuttgart, the 2025 German Cup winner, also recently announced an expansion of its efforts in China.
One of the store's main attractions is the replica of Muller's childhood bed. The item gained attention after Bayern shared a photo in 2022 of the forward, now grown, lying in his original bed wearing a Bayern shirt. That image, now framed, is featured in the Qingdao shop.
Ahead of Muller's departure this summer after 25 years with the club, several teammates recreated the iconic photo, posing on the bed in club jerseys.
Other items in the shop include a stamp set featuring various Bayern logos, an exclusive photo set showcasing the anniversary jersey, and other memorabilia.
Photos shared by the club also show former Bayern player Diego Contento signing autographs for fans, with club mascot Berni making an appearance in Qingdao.
Bayern has significantly expanded its presence in China since 2016 and opened a new office in Shanghai in 2024.
